Our story
Pita Bread is one of the oldest hand-held foods in international culinary history: thin wheat breads leavened with yeast were reportedly baked thousands of years ago in Mesopotamia.
These treats, which puff into airy pockets in high heat, have travelled across the world over the centuries and found their place even in the Nordics. Pita bread works perfectly as a side dish — for example on a meze platter — or as a soft shell for all kinds of fillings, from pulled pork to vegan döner. Only your imagination sets the limits. A filled pita is excellent fast food: easy to enjoy without utensils or even a table.
The nobility of pocket breads — purely Finnish
Pita Factory’s pita breads satisfy hunger without guilt. We use only high-quality ingredients and value tradition in our work. The beloved soft wheat pita’s fluffy texture and rich flavour are based on an old recipe originating from the company’s original founders. Although Pita Factory’s ownership changed after the early 2000s, the ingredient proportions have remained almost the same to this day. In addition to our classic wheat pita, our selection also includes the world’s first and only rye pita.
At our bakery in Jokioinen, in the heart of the Häme countryside, we produce 100% Finnish snack products, delivered to stores fresh and packaged. Alongside our own product family, Pita Factory also undertakes subcontracting work for several Finnish quality brands.
At the turn of 2025, the pita bakery was transferred to Pitala Oy through a business acquisition. Today, the story of this traditional pita bakery is carried forward by entrepreneurs Ellen Tahkola and Aukusti and Lyydia Karhumaa, together with the bakery’s long-term employees.
